The CARTEL Band
The CARTEL Band was formed by Towncar D after attending several jam sessions around the
Stockton area. Drew hand picked what he considered to be “the pick of the litter” and put together The
CARTEL. Since its inception, The CARTEL has taken Stockton by storm. Together, the combined
talents and experience of these guys has formed the band to beat all bands. In the short time that it’s
been around, The CARTEL is already known for its hard hitting, sho-nuff funky sound. So if an old
school funk band with a new flav is what you’re looking for, look no more.
The following is a biography of The Cartel Band. The members are as follows;
TownCar “D”, drummer, band leader. Drew is well known in the Stockton area for being a well
rounded drummer who knows how to hold the pocket, with impeccable timing and plays strong
grooves. Drew cut his teeth with the Marvin Zeller Band and is currently dedicated full time to the
CARTEL band.
OldSkool , saxophonist, lead vocalist. Former member of 9th Creation, appearing on Soul train in
1977 and toured Japan in 1976-77. Also performed high profile gigs with El DeBarge and family. He
adds a strong vocal range to the band and is a crucial voice to complete a harmonious sound.
Jimmy Anderson, percussions, lead vocalist with extensive vocal range. Also performed high
profile gigs with El DeBarge and family. Jimmy is relatively new to a group experience. He has been a
solo vocal artist most of his singing career, but has exploded as a powerful vocal force within the
Cartel.
Dave Mayfield tagged from the beginning of his career as a hard-core funk bass player. Dave
has done extensive touring overseas both military and civilian. Dave adds punch to the funky sounds
of urban and contemporary types of music. Dave began his musical career with "Unlimited Sound", and
"Impulse" which mainly played in Guam, Korea, Japan and Hawaii. Also performed high profile gigs
with El DeBarge and family and currently Music Director for the CARTEL band.
Mike Scott, trumpeter and back ground vocalist. Mike toured the world with “Betty Wright” and
“KC and the Sunshine Band” through the mid 70s and early 80s. Mike recently recorded with main
stream Gospel artist such as Derrick Hall and Company, The Pentecostal Ambassadors and South
Bay Community Church. Mike has set the standard of good work ethics for the CARTEL band.
Anthony Conlon, Trombone and keyboards. Anthony is a sought after studio musician
displaying skills in almost all genre. Also performed high profile gigs with Sapo Featuring Richard
Bean, Latin Magic, Malo, Latin Essence, Stymie and the Pimp Jones Love Orchestra and many more.

Gary Bell, Vocals and Guitarist. Gary has been playing music since the age of 10. He's played
with various groups overseas, both military and civilian. Playing in Guam, Korea, Japan and Hawaii to
name a few places Gary was guitarist for Unlimited Sound, Impulse. El, Chico and James
DeBarge. Gary has definitely paid his dues in the industry.
